Caring for baby chicks is a wonderful and rewarding experience. From the moment they hatch, you will be captivated by their charm and beauty as they grow into strong and healthy chickens. In order to give your chicks the best start in life, there are some important tips that all chicken owners should follow.
First, ensure your chicks have a safe home away from predators. A proper chicken coop should be large enough for them to move around comfortably, but small enough to retain heat during cold weather.
Provide plenty of food and water in clean dishes – this is especially important when introducing new feed types for growing chicks and young hens.
Additionally, ensure the brooder temperature is kept at 95 degrees Fahrenheit when they’re up to two weeks old, then decrease it by five degrees each week until they can handle room temperature on their own.
