Chicken Breeds - LearnPoultry

When it comes to choosing a chicken breed, there is no shortage of options. From the large and majestic Orpington to the tiny and energetic Sebright, there are so many varieties that make raising chickens a rewarding experience for farmers and backyard enthusiasts alike.

Each breed offers unique characteristics in terms of egg production, temperament, size, coloration, and cold tolerance.

The Orpington is an excellent choice for first-time chicken owners as this breed is calm yet friendly with a good laying rate of up to 250 eggs per year. This large bird has beautiful buff feathering which gives them their signature appearance.

Alternatively, the Sebright is significantly smaller than most other breeds but they lay a good amount of eggs each season with around 200 per year. They are also well-known for being active and curious birds who love human interaction.
